OVERVIEW
PageIT! extends the reach of your electronic mail system by
converting your alpha pager into a portable message center.
Now you can send complete messages to field based personnel in
words and sentences without ever picking up the phone.
PageIT! provides a gateway interface from MHS compatible e-mail
systems to full text alphanumeric pagers. Once installed, you
can send pages as easily as you can send e-mail from our ExpressIT!
or other electronic mail system.
The PageIT! gateway runs on your MHS server, and utilizes the modem
that you are currently using for MHS communications. Because PageIT!
is running as a gateway, your users only need to compose and address
the e-mail, and the gateway will handle all of the communications to
the pager service.
Although PageIT! was designed to be used with other MHS compatible
e-mail products, we have added capabilities to enhance its features
when used in conjunction with our ExpressIT! line of e-mail products.
PageIT! also shares our "Directory Assistance" technology, which will
allow it to share it's directory of pagers with all ExpressIT! users
if you want it to.
Although you can use PageIT! as is with your MHS server and compatible
e-mail system to send messages to alpha pagers, you can also use PageIT!
together with our ForwardIT! message redirection gateway to re-route
e-mail addressed to a network e-mail user from that user's office address
to their pager!
REQUIREMENTS
Before you can use PageIT!, you must have your MHS server and e-mail
system installed and operational, with a Hayes compatible modem
installed in the MHS server.
You should also have at least one alpha pager available to test your
installation with. Your local paging service representative usually
has one, and if you are considering the purchase of these pagers, would
more than likely assist you with the testing procedure.
PageIT! is compatible with any alpha paging service that uses the "IXO"
transfer protocol. We suggest that you call the technical support or
service department of your local pager company to be certain that they
support the "IXO" protocol system BEFORE installing PageIT!.
Note that in some countries the "IXO" protocol is also known as "TAP"
and/or "PET".
INSTALLING PAGEIT! WITH MHS 1.5
This installation procedure assumes you are installing PageIT!
with MHS 1.5. For instructions on installing PageIT! with NetWare
Global MHS, see the next section header.
PageIT! runs as an MHS gateway process named PAGEIT.
To install the gateway process:
1.) Take your MHS server off-line by exiting from MHS on your MHS Mail
Server.
2.) Perform the installation process the correct version of PageIT!
that you have:
If you have the 30-day trial version of PageIT!, execute
PG30DAY.EXE from the distribution diskette or the drive
you have it on.
If you purchased PageIT!, execute PGINSTAL.EXE from the
distribution diskette.
3.) Copy the contents of the distribution diskette into a
directory on your server, for example \MHS\EXE.
4.) Execute PAGEIT.EXE, from the directory of your server that
you copied it to, to install the PAGEIT gateway process.
5.) Restart your MHS server.
INSTALLING PAGEIT! WITH NETWARE GLOBAL MHS
PageIT! runs as an MHS gateway process on a PC running the GWDEMON
utility for running DOS based gateways with NetWare Global MHS.
To install the gateway process:
1.) Within NGMADMIN, define a gateway for PageIT! We recommend that
a short name of PAGEIT be used.
With NGMHS v2.0, in NGMADMIN select "This Server", then "SMF
Gateways". Press <Insert> to define the gateway.
We recommend the following settings:
Gateway NGM Name: Pageit.Domain
Gateway NGM Short Name: Pageit
Gateway NGM Password: (none)
Gateway Description: PageIT!
Command Line: (none)
Execution Interval: (no recommendation)
Default Workgroup: Pageit.Domain
PostMaster Mailbox: (no recommendation)
SMF Version: v71
Protocol Aliases: (none)
In the above examples, substitute your domain for the word
"Domain".
When PageIT! prompts for the gateway name, supply the short
name that was used for configuring the gateway to NGMHS.
5.) If you wish to have PageIT! automatically synchronize its
directory updates with NGMHS SMF v71 directory synchronization,
then the gateway must be configured for on-NGM directory
synchronization.
With NGMADMIN.NLM, this is done by selecting "This Server",
"Directory Syncrhonization", "Non-NGM Directory Syncrhonization".
Press <Insert>, and select the PageIt gateway entry. The default
selections provided by NGM should be sufficient.
CONFIGURING PAGEIT!
Execute PAGEIT.EXE
The setup program for the PageIT! MHS to alpha pager gateway displays
an index of all pagers that have been defined to PageIT!
If you are configuring PageIT! for the first time, you should first
press <F3> to modify system wide defaults for the PageIT! gateway.
To add a definition for a new pager, press <Insert>.
To modify or view the settings for an individual pager name, highlight
the user and press <Enter>.
To delete a pager definition, highlight the user and press <Delete>.
When you are finished making your changes, press <Escape> to exit.
PageIT! has a context sensitive help system that can be accessed by
pressing <F1>. For more information on any of the other listed categories,
highlight the desired topic, and press <Enter>.
SYSTEM DEFAULTS
PageIT! allows configuration of the following defaults on a system wide
basis. To get help for a field, highlight the item and press <F1>.
The following fields are displayed on the system defaults screen:
COMMUNICATIONS PORT
This field specifies the communications port to use for dialing out
to the pager service.
If you are going to share the modem that MHS uses, it is recommended
that this value be set to 0 to tell PageIT! to look this value up,
rather than setting it to either 1 or 2.
If you are running with NetWare Global MHS, the COM port must be
specified explicitly.
INITIALIZATION STRING
This field specifies the modem commands that need to be sent to the
modem to initialize it for use with PageIT!
The default codes for this field are "ATZ" which works well with most
Hayes compatible modems.
DIALING PREFIX
The entries in this field are the commands which PageIT! needs to
send to the modem to prepare it for dialing and tell it to dial the
paging service.
The codes used by most Hayes compatible modems are ATQ0V1DT
If your system has to dial a number to select an out bound telephone
line, you can try ATQ0V1DT9,
DIALING SUFFIX
If your modem requires that you add commands or numbers after the
telephone number, place them in this field.
REDIAL ATTEMPTS
This field allows you to specify how many times PageIT! should attempt
to deliver the outgoing messages to the pager service's terminal.
DIALING DELAY
This field specifies how many seconds to delay after a failed attempt
to connect to the pager service's terminal before re-trying.
PAGER SERVICE PHONE NUMBER
This is the telephone number that PageIT! needs to dial to deliver
your messages to the pager system.
If you do not have this number, contact the service provider.
NOTE: This is NOT the telephone number on the pager. The number on
the pager can be used from a phone the same as a digital pager,
but with alphanumeric pagers, the number on the pager is the
Pager ID Number (PIN) and is used later in the configuration.
PAGER SERVICE PASSWORD
If your service requires you to use a password to access the system,
enter that password in this field.
TERMINAL CHARACTER LIMIT
The pager has a limit to the number of character it can have in each
message. Check the specifications on your pagers and enter that value
in this field. The Motorola Advisor has a limit of 230 characters.
MESSAGE CHARACTER LIMIT
PageIT! can send much larger messages to the pager than specified by
the Terminal Character Limit by breaking one large e-mail message into
multiple pages.
The maximum size of each message is configured on a user by user basis.
NOTE: Pagers have a limited amount of memory, and if this value is
set high and you send large messages to the pager, the memory
in the pager can get filled very quickly. It is suggested that
if you want to be able to send large messages that you purge
messages from the pager regularly and make your e-mail users
aware of the capacity of your system.
Any portion of the message that exceeds this value will be
truncated and will NOT be transmitted to the pager.
DEFINING PAGERS
After you have defined PageIT!'s System Defaults, you need to enter the
information for each user's pager.
MHS NAME
This is the name of the user you want to configure. If you want the
name to be accessible as a user on your host, pick a unique name
from other existing users. If you will be addressing mail with PAGEIT
as the host name, you can use the user's e-mail name again.
DESCRIPTION
This field is for the user's full name, or if the pager is shared, the
name of the team that shares it. (ie: Tech Support)
NetWare Global MHS / SMF 71 users can address messages either to
the short MHS Name, or this "description" field is used as the SMF
long address.
DEFINE MHS NAME AS A USER ON HOST hostname?
This entry does not apply when running PageIT! in the SMF 71/
NetWare Global MHS environment.
This is a YES/NO question which determines whether the user you are
defining should be listed as a user on your MHS host, or as a user on
the PAGEIT gateway.
If you answer yes, make sure that you have selected a name that is
unique to the users on your host.
If you select no, mail to be sent to this user must be addressed to
MHS_NAME @ PAGEIT and the name must be unique only to mhs names on
the PageIT! gateway.
PAGER SERVICE PHONE NUMBER
The phone number will default to the number that was entered in the
system defaults.
If this user uses a different pager service than the default, enter
the phone number of the service here.
PAGER SERVICE PASSWORD
If this user's pager is accessed through a different service than
the default, and this service requires a password, enter the password
for the service in this field.
PAGER ID NUMBER
The Pager ID Number is the telephone number that typically appears on
a label on the back of the pager. If the number on the label includes
an area code, spaces or hyphens, ignore them.
NOTE: You call dial this number from a touch tone phone, and access
the pager in the same way that you can with the conventional
digital pagers.
MESSAGE CHARACTER LIMIT
This field defaults to the value you entered in the system default's
"MESSAGE CHARACTER LIMIT", but if you need to send longer messages,
you can enter a higher value, and the message will be sent as multiple
transmissions to the pager.

NETWORK UTILITIES
-----------------
* I-Queue! - Simplifies network printing and print queue management
in the Novell NetWare environment. From within a small memory
resident pop-up (0 to 2-1/2KB), I-Queue! allows users to easily
change NetWare print queues and modify "capture" parameters.
I-Queue! is compatible with Novell's PRINTCON/PRINTDEF and adds
global PRINTCON support for Novell's own utilities.
Queue management capabilities include: delete/reorder print jobs,
move/copy jobs between queues, and hold/delayed printing.
NOW INCLUDES A WINDOWS VERSION!
* I-Queue! Server - Turn printers attached to any network workstation
into shared network printers. Two to four times faster than RPRINTER,
compatible with workstations running Windows, and compatible with
printer ports that do not provide "hardware interrupt support".
* LockIT! - Intelligent Security for DOS & Windows workstations
on Novell NetWare networks. LockIT! addresses the problem of
users leaving workstations unattended, and the security issues
that this presents. Unlike other solutions that will reboot or
logout a workstation after a period of "inactivity", potentially
leading to data loss, LockIT! locks out keyboard input until you
enter your NetWare password...even allowing unattended processes
to continue executing.
* CastAway! - A better NetWare broadcast message trap. Get NetWare
message notification (e.g., SEND) without your PC locking up until
you press CTRL-ENTER! Get notified of new messages while in graphics
based applications! All in 0 to 1-1/2KB of conventional memory!
* PopIT! - Gain pop-up access to almost ANY program with less than
2-1/2 KB overhead. Network administrators -- access SYSCON,
RCONSOLE, FCONSOLE and all of your favorite network utilities
without leaving your current application.
* OnCall! - A memory resident "Chat" utility for Novell NetWare,
that runs in between 0 and 2-1/2 KB of workstation memory.
Simple, straightforward, and easy to use. NOW INCLUDES A
WINDOWS VERSION!
EXPRESSIT! ELECTRONIC MAIL
--------------------------
* ExpressIT! Electronic Mail - The ExpressIT! Electronic Mail product
family includes the following products:
* ExpressIT! - The network version of ExpressIT!, including
the MHS-compatible DOS version, which runs in less than 2KB of
resident memory.
* ExpressIT! Remote - A remote version of ExpressIT! (DOS) customized
for use on stand-alone/remote PCs. Includes Personal MHS and

environment, and a wealth of additional features, including
mail enabling of other Windows applications.
* ExpressIT! Remote Windows - A remote version of the Windows
version of ExpressIT! customized for use on stand-alone/remote
PCs. Includes Personal MHS and allows users to send and receive
mail with any MHS based electronic mail system.
A special Windows based MHS configuration utility eliminates the
need to use the MHS Directory Manager.
* ExpressIT! OS/2 Client - An upgrade for the network version
of ExpressIT! offering native support for the IBM OS/2 v2.x
environment, and a wealth of additional features.
All versions of ExpressIT! include ExpressIT! Directory Assistance,
facilitating automatic exchange of user directories between ExpressIT!
hosts.
MHS GATEWAYS AND UTILITIES
--------------------------
* MHS Scheduler - An MHS mail agent that provides greater flexibility
in configuring when MHS will connect to a host. On a host-by-host
basis, the MHS administrator can configure different frequencies of
forced connections based on different times of the day, with
separate weekday, weekend, and holiday scheduling possible.
MHS gateways and internetwork connections can also be scheduled.
The companion RunIT! utility simplifies the creation of batch file
gateways...now you can run your tape backup system on your MHS
server.
* MHS Librarian! - An MHS Gateway that allows users to request
information to be forwarded to them via MHS. Requests are
made by placing a keyword in the "SUBJECT" field of the message
that you address to the library. A list of files may be
requested by sending a message with the keyword of INDEX. The
system Admin can also configure MHS Librarian so that selected
users can request files or directories other than those that
appear in the index. Security is provided by a password program
that generates unique daily passwords, a fixed password, or you
can create your own password utility.
MHS Librarian! also supports "discussion lists", similar to
the "list server" concept on the internet.
* PageIT! - An MHS gateway connecting MHS-based electronic mail
systems to full text alphanumeric pagers. Once configured,
sending messages to an alphanumeric pager is as simple as
sending a message from your favorite MHS application.
* ForwardIT! - An MHS mail agent for automatically forwarding
MHS based electronic mail messages. ForwardIT! can forward
(or copy) messages addressed to an MHS address to an alternate
address.
ForwardIT! is most useful in the MHS remote e-mail environment.
By remote, we refer to field workers or business travelers who
operate ExpressIT! Remote, or other MHS compatible remote
software, on a PC or laptop to access their electronic mail
from a distant location. Examples could include a salesperson
between sales calls, a business traveler in a hotel room,
or work-at-home scenarios.
Without ForwardIT!, when mail is sent to a recipient's office
address, MHS does not allow for a remote user to dial into the
network and retrieve mail waiting for their office address. Mail
addressed to this office address can only be picked up at the
office.
In order to send a message to the user's MHS remote, the sender
must assume responsibility for sending a copy of the message to
the remote MHS address.
With ForwardIT!, the user leaves a forwarding address at the
office, and while they're out, all messages will be forwarded,
or copied, to their forwarding address, giving users transparent
access to their electronic mail while away from the office.
This forwarding address can be any valid MHS address, including
addresses via MHS gateways.
* MhsQ! - An MHS gateway interface to NetWare print queues.
Messages can be sent via MHS to a NetWare print queue.
This capability can be useful for MHS remote sites and/or
MHS enabled applications for generating printed output
and/or reports.
MhsQ! can also redirect print queues on one file server
to a remote print queue on another file server via MHS.
* ExpressIT! MHS Directory Assistant - A directory services
gateway that automatically creates and updates user routes
in a multi-host workgroup environment. Add a user at one
host within the workgroup, and the user route will automatically
be created at all other hosts within the workgroup. Add a
new host to your workgroup, and the host and user lists will
automatically be added to other hosts within the workgroup.
(Directory Assistant is bundled with ExpressIT! but is also
available separately.)
* MHSNotify! - A TSR which runs on the MHS mail server only, and
automatically notifies recipients of new electronic mail
received from remote MHS sites, or across internetwork
connections. An excellent alternative to MHSALERT for
DaVinci e-mail users! (MHSNotify! is bundled with ExpressIT!)
REQUESTING TRIAL VERSIONS VIA MHS
